During Spring Semester, the Fullerton College English Department recognizes outstanding students at the annual Humanities Tea.  Award categories and criteria are as follows:

Basic and Developmental Writing Book Awards
The Basic and Developmental Writing Book Awards recognize an outstanding student at each level, English 39, English 59, and English 60, who shows unusual academic progress.

Kathleen M. Brooks Achievement Award
The Kathleen M. Brooks Achievement Award honors a student who has progressed from either Basic Writing or Developmental Writing through the composition sequence to achieve success in English 100. The English Department named this award to honor the memory of an esteemed colleague and a dedicated teacher of writing. Her enthusiasm for teaching and her sincere concern for students deserve special recognition.

William T. Boyce Creative Writing Award
Jessamyn West, noted author and former Fullerton College student, in order to encourage creative writers and to honor the man who had encouraged her to become a writer, made possible the William T. Boyce Creative Writing Awards. The awards, first presented in 1960, may be given to outstanding writers of poetry, drama, and the short story.

William B. Meyer Freshman Writing Award
The Freshman Writing Award, established in 1975, honors the memory of William B. Meyer who taught English at Fullerton College for seventeen years. During that time he shared his passionate love of language and literature with his students as well as devoted himself to serving the larger community. This award is given to the outstanding freshman writer.

English Scholarship Award
As a result of the combined efforts of the Fullerton College English Department faculty, the English Scholarship, first presented in 1964, was established to recognize outstanding student performance in composition and literature. The scholarship is given to a student transferring to a four-year institution and is based both on excellence in writing and on scholarship in literature.

Second Language Learner Award
This award is presented to a student who has started in the English as a Second Language program and has successfully completed English 100: College Writing.
